

The National Schools Press Conference is the highest competition for journalism in both private and public elementary and secondary schools as per the Republic Act of 1991. The journalism contest starts with the Divisional Schools Press Conference (DSPC) of which top three (3) to fifteen (15) in each category depending on the size of the certain schools’ division qualifies to the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC), and from which the top three will be chosen to represent their respective regions in the National Schools Press Conference.
Last September 5-6, 2019, Dansalan College Foundation, Inc. sent 12 campus journalists of the school’s official publication, The Collegian, to participate in the first level of the journalism contest, DSPC 2019 which was held at Iligan City National High School. The said competition was joined by different schools in Iligan City in both private and public elementary and secondary.
The Dansalan College Foundation secondary level participants were: Anna Shahidah Bacaro, and Amer Shakil Bacaro for the Editorial Column Writing, Mohammad Asradz Isah for Science and Technology Writing, Kylie Aminola for Sports Writing, Ashimah Dimalutang and Neshreen Hassan for News Writing, Farina Piang and Soraya Ringia for Editorial Writing, Naila Romoros and Saliha Lomondot for Feature Writing, Fatmasherin Alawi and Lady Johainee Banocag for the Copyreading and Headline Writing.
All the writing contests were competed in the first day then the Awarding Ceremony in the second day. Five DC writers won medals and three of them qualified for the Regional Schools Press Conference. Naila Romoros won Champion in Feature Writing-English category. Lady Johainee Banocag won Champion in Copyreading and Headline Writing- English category, and Fatmasherin Alawi won 3rd place in Copyreading and Headline Writing-English category. Other writers who won were Sonaya Ringia, 7th place in Editorial Writing-English category, Saliha Lomondot, 4th place in Feature Writing-English category. Dansalan College Foundation was also awarded as one of the Top 5 Performing Schools in Secondary English.
Meanwhile, during the Regional Schools Press Conference which was participated by thousands of campus journalists from its 14 divisions held at Gingoog City last October 26-31, Lady Johainee Banocag won 5th place for the Copyreading and Headline Writing.
